Crimestoppers offers reward for evidence in hit and run crash

Wed, Jun 25th 2014 11:00 am

Crime Stoppers is joining the Evans Police Department in the search for new evidence that could bring new charges in the hit and run crash that killed 52-year-old Barry Moss on December 22,  2013.

Moss was walking from a friend's house on State Route 5 near Gold Street in Angola just after midnight, when he was struck by a 2013 gray Ford Explorer registered to Gabriele Ballowe. The driver did not stop to help, and Moss eventually died from his injuries and exposure to winter weather conditions.

Ballowe was initially charged in the crash, and a jury initially voted to indict her, but in a second vote, the grand jury returned a "no bill." The decision allowed Ballowe to walk free with no charges, unless new evidence was found in the case.

Now, law enforcement in Evans has turned to Crime Stoppers to search for that new evidence.

Officers believe Ballowe may have confided in friends and family in the months since the crash.

They are asking anyone with information to come forward and share what they know.

Anyone afraid of legal repercussions can have their attorney notify Crime Stoppers, and special arrangements could be made for witnesses who cooperate in the investigation.

Crime Stoppers and the family is offering a reward of up to $11,000.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (716) 867-6161
